Build A Temple — Privacy Policy

Build A Temple ("the app," "we," "us") is a habit-tracking app. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and who it's shared with.

Data We Collect

Stored on your device only

The app collects your name, onboarding questionnaire responses, habit completion records, XP points, streaks, and notification preferences. This data is stored exclusively on your device using Apple's CoreData framework. We do not collect your email, phone number, precise location, or advertising identifiers.

Sent off your device — AI Coach chat only

If you use the app's AI Coach chat feature (available to active subscribers), the messages you type are sent off your device to generate a response. This is the one feature in the app that is not fully local. Specifically:

Your chat messages are sent to our backend (hosted on Supabase) and then relayed to OpenAI's API to generate the coach's reply.
To confirm you're an active subscriber before processing a message, your device also sends a StoreKit transaction token — a piece of data issued and cryptographically signed by Apple that proves an active subscription. It does not contain your name, email, or payment details.
Our backend does not store your chat messages. It logs only a subscription identifier, a timestamp, the response status, and token usage — never the content of what you typed. This log exists for abuse prevention and reliability monitoring.
OpenAI processes your message content to generate a reply, per OpenAI's API data usage policy. As of this writing, OpenAI does not use API data to train its models by default.
If you don't use the AI Coach feature, no message content is ever sent anywhere — this only applies when you actively choose to chat.

Storage

Your habit, XP, streak, and questionnaire data resides exclusively on your device. We do not operate a server that stores this information. If you enable iCloud Backup in iOS Settings, this data may be included in your personal iCloud backup, which is managed by Apple, not us.

Payments

Subscriptions are processed entirely through Apple's App Store using StoreKit 2. We never see or store your payment card information. We receive only confirmation of an active subscription (via Apple-signed transaction data) to unlock premium features, including the AI Coach.

Notifications

Push notifications are generated and scheduled locally on your device. No notification content or scheduling data is transmitted to us or any third party.

Third Parties

OpenAI — processes AI Coach chat message content solely to generate responses. See OpenAI's privacy policy.
Supabase — hosts the backend function that relays AI Coach messages to OpenAI and verifies your subscription status. Supabase does not receive or store your habit, XP, streak, or questionnaire data.
We do not integrate advertising SDKs, analytics trackers, or data brokers. We do not sell or share your data for advertising purposes.
Apple may separately collect usage metrics through the App Store, governed by Apple's own privacy policy.

Your Control

Since almost all of your data stays on your device, you have direct control over it — deleting the app removes your locally stored habit, XP, streak, and questionnaire data. Because the AI Coach does not retain chat message content on our servers, there is no chat history for us to delete on request beyond what's already absent. Users in the EEA, UK, and California retain their statutory rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA respectively, including the right to request information about what we process — which, outside of transient AI Coach message routing, is limited to the abuse-prevention log described above.

Security

Device passcode, biometric authentication, and Apple's app sandboxing protect data stored on your device. AI Coach requests are sent over encrypted HTTPS connections and authenticated using Apple-signed subscription tokens, not passwords or shared secrets.

Children's Privacy

Build A Temple is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
